about
Simply put, "Little Fire" is about hope, the smallest light in the midst of great darkness. It comes from a season of pain and hurt of mine and others, but it boasts of a joy that breaks through the gloom and burns brightly.
I'm thankful for Paul Demer and Logan Bowers and Stephen Gause, who all helped this track come to life, truly. The soaring melodies and driving drums just wouldn't sound the same without them. I'm also grateful for Hannah Taylor, who provided a fantastic piece of art for the single. Thank you.
lyrics
I swam across to get you on the other bank
I only got scared when you didn’t want to talk about it
I said a lot of people get killed like that
You didn’t say a thing, so I almost forgot about it
Even if we’re meant to sit in the cold
The shivers are proving warmth is the goal
Open your heart, just let it flood the place
When it recedes, look for what stayed the same
Can’t you see that even though the pain remains
One little fire could outshine the darker days
Who knows how we get here in the first place
We’re chasing after love, then we wake up in the depths of hell
But love isn’t some happy maniacal race
It’s walking on the water by forgetting about yourself
I know there are many who may sink no matter what
But don’t let the lies disprove a breathing proof in whom you might see God
Come on, brother
Wake up, sister
Rise up, brother
Rise up, sister
I know you’re scared, buried in there
But deep in your ashes there’s an ember waiting to spark
