Small Things 04:16
Age is a funny thing You think that you’ll grow up into A better version of you But I’m just not feeling it now It seems more like I’m just breaking down More like I’m just fading out CHORUS: And I keep feeling like I’m fighting uphill battles left and right With no strength to survive them I’ve been freaking out over the small things I won’t ever change They get stuck in me and I’m like, can I get somebody to help? Everything feels so wrong Like I’m trapped inside of the floor Where small things become so much more And I can’t stop now, though moments ago, all was right, Now I can’t even get to sleep tonight Still I lay here trying How was I supposed to know that the fog never fully clears? Where am I supposed to go, where these struggles disappear? Or can you really find me here? If I’m not alone, I don’t need control to find joy in my life So I let it go, in the hope that you can find me here
2.
There are places in the cosmos where there’s beauty in the corners Many dreamers become foreigners to see ‘Cause their homes had all the problems, only leaving didn’t solve them Will you help me? I don’t want to be deceived CHORUS: If you’re not there, then I don’t need it If you won’t come along, then I don’t want to walk that way If you’re still here, then please don’t leave me ‘Cause I want to be with you more than the view Out of fire, heard you calling, in my failures, I was falling But you knew it, so you came ‘round to declare Breaking pavement, shutting shutters, closing doorways, opening others Now I’m thankful as I’m looking up ahead Find me in this moment Take these hands and lead me Only where you are ‘Cause to be honest, I feel broken, I’ve been searching, I’ve been hoping So if you’re moving, will you stop and show me where?
3.
Cumulonimbus 03:24
I was hoping that all of your mountains Would burst right open with hope on the wind But they’ve hemmed in, like the snow of Caradhras, All of the plans you had I wish I were as wise as the wizard So I could bring you my timely advice But I’ve got nothing but tears for your sadness Here on the other side CHORUS: But you carry life in those lungs And it’s seldom lightweight So don’t fear all cumulonimbus Sometimes your rain becomes someone else’s grace People run to attack all their problems Honesty’s just a title they take ‘Cause they’re not open and don’t want to solve them Truth wears a mask of shame If you give love that’s as wide as an ocean You might get left in the loneliest place But don’t you dare try to bottle it up ‘Cause I’m going to find you there There’s no storm that’s meaningless And rest will come soon There’s will in this water for new life But most good things sprout unseen
4.
River, wide enough to wade the countryside Deep enough to bear me many miles, until I stop to sit a while Aching, like the sliver of a crescent moon A silver line against the midnight blue, awaiting red and yellow hues And I, alike, feel trapped in my own bed until the sun should rise Forgetting the billion suns still burning overhead CHORUS: And they’re singing, holy, holy Singing, holy, holy In the background with my Father In the background with my Father In the background with my Father Broken, like an oak struck by a lightning storm Its long life shortened in a moment’s harm Now just a stump on forest floor And I, alike, feel broken from within, too angry to admit This storm is pouring life back in the ground again CHORUS: And it’s singing, holy, holy Singing, holy, holy In the background with my Father In the background with my Father In the background with my Father Crimson, like the holly seen at Christmastime Like the color of a sacrifice Like the heart that gives me life And I, unlike, so self-absorbed and hurt, remember him who died Who walked into the darkness just to bring his light Who’s waiting even now for when he should arrive CHORUS: And he’s singing, holy, holy Singing, holy, holy Oh, he’s singing, holy, holy Singing, holy, holy In the background with my Father In the background with my Father In the background with my Father
5.
Jesus, we told you Lazarus was sick We don’t know why you didn’t come ‘Cause we believe you are the one whom God has sent But we don’t know why our brother’s gone If you’d have been here, he would be alive If you are God, why did you let him die? Mary, let me cry right here with you But don’t forget who I am For whoever believes in me, though he should die, I will let him live again ‘Cause sometimes troubles come so you might see How God is glorified when you believe in me CHORUS: Let the darkness fall, know I am stronger still Though his heartbeat stopped, see how I will, I will Take him who dies under the dirt and let him walk out in the sun I am the life and the resurrection I can feel the weight of sin across my shoulders I know my time has finally come I am kneeling in this garden alone and bleeding Trying to let your will be done I can feel my hope is fading fast Oh, Father, I am begging, let this pass, but even still Let the darkness fall, I know you’re stronger still Though my heartbeat stops, I know you will, you will Redeem this broken body for broken bodies yet to come CHORUS: So let the darkness fall, my God is stronger still Though your heartbeat stops, see how he will, he will Take him who dies under the dirt, and let him walk out in the sun He is the life and the resurrection He is the life and the resurrection
6.
Any man can claim to start a fire Anyone can go and swing a sword You can Christianize some instinct or desire And in seconds just be bored If truth is rising, you feel stuck on the ground If love is moving, you feel unmoved somehow CHORUS: If you feel some isolation when you ponder your salvation It might be a cave you found If you’ve bolted up your door and yet you’re asking, “is there more?” Well, while you’re staring down at pavement Remember it’s people’s hands who made it Remember God loves people everywhere
7.
I don’t know if we both knew what we were getting ourselves into When we said, “I do,” but here we are It seems like many things in life get magnified by fear and pride And compromise shows our faults like the canyon lines And I’m sorry for when I make a landmark of mine But I want you to know that wherever we go, I’ll stay near CHORUS: Because I am with you Because I am for you Because I love you Until our dying days appear, let me be clear I am here for you As the moon is bound around this earth And the two spin round the burning sun So to you I will always belong As we dance in the light of God And I know it isn’t easy, and the path feels rough and broken But we are not alone on it ‘Cause the God who said he made this is the one who comes to save it Every time I fail it, as he says
8.
Do all of your ends feel frayed and tired Like the weight of the world has quenched the fire in you? Like the grip of electricity, Are you trapped inside anxiety’s control? Do you feel that ache on the inside? Do you know the one who takes it? CHORUS: He can carry your heart, he can carry your heart If he could carry his cross to the place of the skull He can carry a faith to the depths of your soul He can carry your heart, he can carry your heart If even death couldn’t make his body stay buried Then the one who loved you better than any other can carry your heart Is everything you’ve ever done wrong Hanging strapped on your back, just dragging you down to hell? Do you know that there’s a narrow climb That the weakest and the weariest take to find relief? Do you feel that weight hanging on you? Do you know the one who takes it? Don’t you know the children of the freedom Are the ones who can dance at the valleys and mountains alike? Oh, but don’t you know the burden of the free Is to go and be the hands and the feet Of the one who brought them all to life As their lungs ring out the line: CHORUS: “He can carry your heart, he can carry your heart” So stand up child, live up to your calling Look to the one who is desperate and falling And carry your heart, go and carry your heart Cause if you have joy and peace in Christ Would you look to your neighbor and lift up his eyes When he asks where to look for the joy that’s inside, say, “The one who loved you better than any other can carry your heart”
9.
Come to Life 06:08
Gaze, gaze into the pools My gathering of thoughts and dreams of Possibilities that, as a roaring fire Blaze, colors of the leaves In uncreated trees, a forest of glorious praise CHORUS: Away I pace among the rising light of day A gentle, rippling, life-sustaining song of grace As green as grass descending on the hills in waves And waves of joy halt passersby As everything I sing of comes to life So rise! Souls of every size Young mysteries of life come to me and open your eyes Awake! Love and think and speak Be ye living plants or beasts that Divinity’s waters bathed Jadis, you just couldn’t see That the harm you meant for me Would grow into a beacon A lamppost that will stay Until a later day When, once again, I’ll take your intentions and upend the grave
10.
Hello darling, it took me a long, long time to write this song for you You called me darling and held me in your arms You gave me so many things in such little time And it’s so hard, ‘cause now I wanna hold you close, but there’s just The empty air, and it makes something in my gut sink like a stone CHORUS: Through the years, it has not been any clearer Why I’m still here, but there’s a truth that draws you nearer That as we say goodbye, there’s one saying hello darling to you That’s just about it, there’s already too much to fit in these lines of your life So I’ll just keep playing songs, keeping you and who you’re with In my heart, on my mind After all, all these memories are just their moment’s afterlife So, in honor of you, I’ll offer every darling here some advice CHORUS: Through the years, it may not be any clearer But don’t you fear, because Jesus is drawing nearer So as you say goodbye Oh, as you say goodbye Oh, as you say goodbye, there’s one saying hello darling to you

(Just a Sec) 00:49
12.
Sometimes, I know, it sounds too much like fairy tales to be true While our broken world by its physics spins aloft Some days, I know, it feels like faith has flown away from you And then years go by without you ever feeling a spark CHORUS: But don’t you know? The story’s still alive in you We have this hope: There is no shadow where His light cannot shine through And He is with when you’re in this darkness, too So don’t let the story die in you Somewhere, I hope, there’s gonna be a place where we can run Where these dungeon doubts get dispelled like the clouds at dawn But somehow, for so long, there’s only been grey over the sun And you wonder, has it ever really shone? Every breath your lungs have taken’s a gift to you Every step your feet will make is faith on faith on faith And every time that you look up and see a star is burning, Don’t you see how light so far away can pierce the dark to reach you? CHORUS: Even if you don’t know If the story’s still alive in you Won’t you turn to hope? There is no shadow where His light cannot shine through Even if it takes a lifetime to prove Don’t let the story die in you

about

"The Story's Still Alive" is about the journey of faith, especially those moments where everything seems destined to fail because of doubts, death, and depression. Even in the midst of the valley, I believe we can have immeasurable hope because of what God has done for us in Christ. Whether in stories of life, in Scripture, or in fantasy, these songs serve as a reminder to look up while in shadow and see the Light.

"At a time when our world is in need of hope, renewal, and reminders of God's steadfast love, Graham Jones' new album is a must-listen project. These songs have a timeless Gospel-focused message and are produced in a timeless folk/acoustic style - which will quickly draw comparisons to Andrew Peterson, Zach Winters, & Taylor Leonhardt. This is one of the best albums I've heard this year!" -- Dave Trout [UTR Media]
